WSM 2022 Annual Meeting Program

The meeting will feature oral presentation sessions from June 23-25, including special sessions on invasive mollusks, mollusk conservation, and a memorial session on fossil mollusks in honor of LouElla R. Saul. Dr. Kenneth Hayes of the Bishop Museum will provide the keynote speech.  There will be an auction to raise funds for WSM student grants. Donations for items to be auctioned are welcome. The Annual Meeting will conclude with a field trip to Catalina Island on June 26.

June 23 morning

General Sessions &

Workshop

These sessions will encompass all topics in mollusk research. There will be an informal workshop on field and lab macro photography tips and techniques led by Doug Eernisse.

June 23 afternoon

General Sessions &

Poster Session

General sessions will continue. Hans Bertsch will talk about indigenous uses of mollusks. There will be a poster session in the afternoon.

June 24 morning

General Session &

Invasive Mollusks

General sessions will continue. A session focusing on invasive mollusk research will be led by Jann Vendetti from the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.

June 24 afternoon

Mollusk Conservation & Keynote Speech

A session focused on mollusk conservation in the Anthropocene. This session will be led by Kenneth Hayes from the Bishop Museum of Hawaii. Dr. Hayes will also give the Annual Meeting keynote speech after this session.

June 25

Fossil Mollusks

A special memorial session to honor LouElla Saul, a leader in Cretaceous fossil molluscan research. All paleontologists and neontologists with an interest in fossil mollusks are invited to participate in this session. This session will be led by Lindsey Groves from the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and Dick Squires from Cal State University, Northridge.

June 26

Field Trip

There will be an all day field trip to Catalina Island for snorkeling and exploration. The field trip will cost $10, payable at registration. You may bring your own snorkeling gear or rent the gear from Two Harbors on Catalina. Lunch is available for purchase at the two restaurants on the island. You may also bring your own lunch if you wish.
